lessons from kickball

This evening our kickball team, "Kickin and Screamin" DOMINATED. We actually scored 13 points and won the game. This may not seem that significant, but when you consider the fact that last year I don't think we scored that many point all season, it's worth a few high fives.

New Life has two teams on this kickball league that plays every Sunday night at Memorial Park. This is a great time of relationship building and creating bridges into the community, not to mention the bloopers that are sometimes hilarious.

One of the keys in winning a game is the third base coach. The third base coach is the eyes for the runner. They are keeping an eye on the big picture and then directs the runner on second base or third base to run, stay, tag up and then run, slide...well I think you get the picture. When the runner doesn't pay attention to the coach or rejects their advice, someone generally gets tagged out and the team suffers as a result.

Coaches are not only critical in kickball, but they are in life as well. I can't tell you how many times I was on the verge of making a stupid mistake and had one of my coaches advise me to stay put, or go for it, or run, or...well I think you get the picture.

Are you listening to the coaches in your life? Do you have any? A good coach is priceless.
